On The Journey

Apr 19, 2026    Rev. Chris Carathers

This powerful message takes us on a journey with two disciples walking to Emmaus, reminding us that Easter is not just a single Sunday celebration but the beginning of a transformative season. The scripture from Luke 24:13-35 reveals how Jesus joined these travelers in their confusion and grief, yet they didn't recognize him until he broke bread with them. We're challenged to consider what happens after Easter - after the celebration ends and the lilies fade. The sermon asks us to move beyond comfortable giving and serving from a distance, inviting us instead to make genuine connections with those we serve. Like the disciples who walked seven miles discussing recent events, we too are on a faith journey that requires us to open our eyes to Christ's presence in unexpected places. The Easter season is described as the 'already and not yet' - we've already witnessed the resurrection, but we're not yet at Pentecost when the torch was fully passed to the disciples. This in-between time is crucial for our spiritual growth, calling us to not just arrive at faith but to actively journey with it, transforming from observers into participants in God's mission.
